Verso

About VERSO:
Verso is a label for wines produced by Mario Zanusso from purchased fruit. It is a separate project from I Clivi, with its own cellar. The vineyards are higher yielding than those of I Clivi, which means that there is more wine to go around than from the parent winery.

The wines:
BRUT
Glera is the grape formerly known as Prosecco. This example is from purchased fruit grown in limestone-based clay; the fruit is harvested first thing in the morning, so it arrives still cool, then the must is fermented in stainless steel and some of the carbon dioxide produced by the fermentation is retained when the wine is bottled, as is typical with Prosecco (this winemaking method is called Charmat, or ‘Metodo Italiano’). It is bottled with about 10 grams per liter of residual sweetness, making it ‘Brut’ and drier than many commercial examples of Prosecco.
Notes: pale straw color with a hint of green; very attractive aroma and flavor of flowers, herbs, faintly peachy. Fairly dry balance on the palate. Perfect aperitivo, or with a number of fish dishes. Or for that matter fish tacos or noodle salad.
