Convivio Del Vino Begins This Week!
Michele Boscia
This week we’re off to New York for the inaugural Convivio del Vino, a celebration of Italian wine featuring OM producers Istine, Emidio Pepe, Le Pianelle, Grifalco, Prà, and Niedrist. Founded by beverage director extraordinaire Jeff Porter, along with renowned sommelier Daniel Johnnes of La Paulée fame, Convivio del Vino gathers over 30 of Italy’s top talents for a multi-day festival of tastings, dinner and fun.
Tonight’s program, entitled Passing the Baton, features a number of next-generation winemakers who have continued the traditions of their parents. Maria Niedrist will be front and center representing the Alto Adige with her family’s crystalline alpine whites.
Friday’s Legends Dinner includes the iconic estate, Emidio Pepe, represented by Chiara Pepe. She’ll be pouring Montepulciano d’Abruzzo vintages dating back to 1993!
The entire group will pour at the Grand Tasting on Saturday and then participate in the La Paulée-inspired Tavola di Convivio - a multi-course dinner with wines provided by visiting producers and guests who are encouraged to raid their cellars.
We love that the veneration and attention normally reserved for French wine is now being afforded to its Italian counterparts. In our eyes, there is no wine-producing country with greater natural resources and potential for greatness and we are thrilled to be a part of this groundbreaking event! (And do a little celebrating too!)
