Oliver McCrum Wines has been importing small production Italian wine and distributing to fine retail and restaurant establishes throughout California since 1994. Over time, our portfolio of producers has steadily grown to over 45 producers from 15 different regions of Italy. We look for typical Italian wines with clarity and freshness, usually made from indigenous Italian grape varieties using clean, transparent winemaking techniques and no obvious use of oak.

Harvest Update: Ciro Biondi

Michele Boscia

The flowering took place at the end of May/beginning of June, and it was particularly good this year because the temperature was constant and as a result of this, the cherry trees bore more fruit than we have had for a number of years.

The summer was not very hot and we did not have any hail, but we had changeable weather from the second half of August, when we had lots of rain mixed with sunny days.

From October the weather improved with lots more sunshine and breeze. We decided to harvest when we saw that the leaves had stopped working and that the grapes would not ripen any further.

It's difficult to give our opinion about the overall quality of the vintage at the moment. The sugar levels were not high but the acidity was, so we are expecting more of a floral character and elegance in the reds.

The white too has a lot of acidity and minerality, especial the new Carricante plants. We harvested 2,000 kg of Carricante. The yield was more or less like last year even though we were very selective,  leaving many bunches on the vines.

This year we have starting making OUTIS white again by whole cluster pressing and  immediately transferring it into the stainless steel vat for the fermentation.  We are extremely pleased with the results and sure you will be too !

October 12, 2013 harvested red from Caponetto vineyard (purchased fruit) 2.000kg

October 13, 2013 harvested Carricante from Chianta vineyard (new vines and part of the old vines); this will be "Chianta" - 3.000 kg

October 15, 2013 finished harvesting Chianta and the rest of the white grapes from all the vineyards for OUTIS white -  2.000 kg

October 19, 2013 harvested reds from San Nicolò vineyard and part of Cisterna Fuori vineyard

October 20, 2013 harvested the rest of the reds from Cisterna Fuori, Chianta, and from behind the palmento

In total, red and white, we harvested 18.000 kg of grapes.
